So, after 4 months of waiting, the moment was finally there: Defqon weekend! As I'm a hardstyle music fan and because I could get in for free as a Dutchie, this was very high on my to-do list since the very beginning I knew I was going to Australia. Obviously, it turned out way more expensive than a similar festival in Holland would cost, but it was definitely worth it!
Anyway, I'll start from the beginning. Coincidentally (and luckily!), Sharlen turned out to be going to Sydney as well on the same weekend, so we decided to explore Sydney and Manly for a bit on Friday evening and Saturday morning before I would leave for Defqon. I must say, Sydney is huuuuuge! It feels way bigger than Melbourne but it did feel really special to finally see the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, guaranteeing awesome views. We walked around for hours through the harbour and the surrounding areas and had an amazing time! I only spent a short time in Sydney (I hope to spent some more time there later on), but as for now, I still prefer Melbourne a lot more to be honest as it feels a lot more vibrant and alive actually.
On Saturday morning we spent some time at Manly beach, one of Sydney's many famous beaches and only reachable by ferry, what a way to go home! Many people already start surfing here at sunrise. It's a beautiful beach and the cliffs around it are also worth exploring.
After the short beach trip it was time to go to Defqon! With a group of about 50 Dutchies (hardstyle remains a big Dutch thing after all) we left with the bus that was arranged by our travel association. After the usual drugs-tests and the free ticket-pick up we finally got it and maaaan, it was crazy. I didn't expect too much beforehand as I was told that Defqon might not completely be my kind of festival, but it went absolutely mental from the beginning! It was mainly raw hardstyle from the beginning onwards, which is totally my thing. Around 15:00 I was seriously wondering how I would ever make it through the next 8 hours, but after a good break I was ready to go again, which I did until the end! Afterwards, I walked like a penguin for about two days but boy, it was totally worth it, one of my best hardstyle parties to date!
The endshow movie, for those who are interested
And of course some pictures! First Sydney Harbour
Randoooom
Manly beach and surroundings
I'm absolutely sure that this one wasn't there when we got there...
Defqooooon!
Mainstage! The only stage really worth photographing to be honest, it's all a lot smaller than in Holland, but epic nonetheless!
Once again, the promised picture with Pascal so he would also be there for a bit
